Baucus’ plan to set up nonprofit, member-run cooperatives in every state is a weak and flawed alternative to a government-run insurance option. Have you ever seen how a nonprofit company is run? The term "nonprofit" is so misleading, thinking that it will serve the public without outrageous compensation to top executives, and without the objective of maximizing shareholders return. Just check with nonprofit hospitals. They have luxury rooms, they charge over ten thousand dollars for one night stay in ER. They charge the price of a box of Kleenex even it is only needed ten sheets, they charge a box of Q tips for three sticks used, etc. The executives get big bonuses, their salaries are comparable to profit making companies, and they are not accountable to shareholders, but a set of directors who are their buddies. Wow, nonprofit companies! Looks like Mr Baccus is the same person in Gilligan Island.
