Interesting comments from Bell website.

Who will supply the ADSL equipment used by Bell
Canada?
ADSL equipment will be introduced in two phases, involving
two equipment suppliers. For initial service introduction,
throughout the Ottawa/Hull and Quebec City areas, Bell will
deploy Westell FlexCap 2T Rate Adaptive DSL equipment
supplied by Westell Technologies Incorporated. Westell
equipment was also deployed in the highly succesful ADSL
technology trials conducted from September 1996 to the
present.

For the second phase of service introduction, Bell is pleased to
announce that it has chosen Alcatel to supply the next
generation of ADSL equipment - the Digital Subscriber Line
Access Multiplexor or "DSLAM". Bell expects (NOTICE THE AMBIGUITY-THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A LOOPHOLE IN THE CONTRACT) to begin
deployment of the Alcatel 1000 DSLAM equipment during the
second quarter of 1998.

Does Bell provide ADSL-based Internet service directly
to consumers?
No. Bell does not currently provide Internet access to
consumers.

Who will provide ADSL-based Internet services to
residential consumers?
Bell expects Internet service providers to use ADSL to provide
high-speed service directly to residential consumers.

Who will provide ADSL-based residential telework
service to corporations?
Like ISPs, corporations may use Bell's ADSL access service to
provide high-speed residential telework for their employees.

Who will find ADSL most useful?
ADSL technology will provide faster access to the Internet, and
to the corporate LAN (Local Area Network) for teleworkers.
It is valuable for applications in which the end user needs speed
to download information from a remote server.
