In case anyone is interested my iPhone (3.0) is dead again. Same thing, except not plugged into a charger this time. It's hot and won't turn on. Last time after it sat over-night it started the next morning with a dead battery and after charging worked fine. I'm guessing a funky battery. Wish it was consumer replaceable... or even replaceable somewhere while you wait.
