Now I find myself in the awkward position of having the major industries in the medical reform issues supporting the bills. How would it be significantly different with single payer? Sure, you wouldn't have the industries playing the middleman and making a profit, an irritation for those with a pet peeve re big business, but what would that do to reduce the situation of various constituencies' influence on the government (other than lop off the cost of the profit and the marketing)? You'd still have competitive rent seeking and lobbying, just different players.
