mph, it was actually Bush that first lent money to the auto makers. So, I don't think you can say it was necessarily done just for political purposes.

I think the main idea was to keep these companies going to some extent and not wipe them out along with all their suppliers and peripheral industries.

The bond holders got SCREWED but it seemed like a a few thousand bond holders vs. a few million workers so I guess I would have gone with the workers too.

Actually I thought "cash for clunkers" was great. The way we're throwin' trillions around lately it seemed really good to see a lousy 3 billion make such an impact. It seems the stimulus would have been a LOT better if it had been "Cash for buyin' whatever you want".
