my sister has malaular (sp?) degineration. she is early onset diabetic, genetic (not overweight) that set in when she was pregnant and caused her to lose the child. anyways... the sight loss is also genetic, not diabetic caused. came in her 40's. she was lucky in alabama to have the school for the blind here, from helen keller, to help learn the ways of coping. she has perephial vision and a couple of tiny spots left to see thru. she watches tv from the side. smile.

she was an r.n. and went back to school to be a counselor for disabled but overall health issues nixed that even tho she graduated with straight A's as a grad student.

she can read necessary things with a special reader on her computer that blows it up. and she listens to books on tape endlessly. national librabry sends them out and she just keeps on 'reading' that way. a sister lives close and deals with her mail and bills with her.
