Perhaps the pundits like the Loonie for some kind of 'least worst of the bunch' play.

Parity will kill employment in Canada. Many Canadians already sit at home collecting welfare paid for by resource exploitation. Maybe we should just send a ship to China and bring over their workers & hardware and Canadian workers could sit at home and earn the spread. But hey, thats whats going on anyways.

We're putting a mine into production in Australian. CAPEX was estimated at $8m + $2m contingency. We've ordered the same mill from China for $400k, and after installation we might have to go over $1 million. (We visited the mill manufacturer, visited sites where it has been in use for awhile, and a partner company has just started using the mill. Contrary to original concerns it isn't landfill material)

I know there's a fellow in this deal who, god forbid, has to find a way to put $50 million to work each year. Thats his royalty on one of the mega diamond mines in Canada's North which he found and sold to a major mining concern

But in terms of the metrics for the entire working population that $50 million is a paltry sum, maybe only 1000 FT jobs, which really means the benefits of resource exploitation really accrue to a select few, the rest either benefit by being in government and taxing it or by being lower income beneficiaries and cutting social assistance checks.

To be like our diamond guy it seems the task at hand then is to strategically position oneself in between the rocks in the ground and the people who want those rocks in the ground.

Its tough to look at Nauru and think this strategy is somehow positive for the Loonoie
