But there are all examples where government does better because there is no reasonable alternative. Where there is an alternative, I think we would almost always be better off with private enterprise doing it... Just off the top of my head... take the nuke power industry. The right loves to blast nuke power regulation... but the US government INVENTED nuke power. No industry without government... like so many others (the Internet). The government now guarantees all loans to build nuke power plants... still no private industry takers. Do you think the government should privatize the industry and build their own? That's what France did. And it works. 80% clean nuke power, a model for the world. The majority of the pure research done in this country (especially in medicine) is done by, or financed by government (through educational institutions). Get over it.
