Tech,
IBM has always had the technology. They never had the cost effectiveness or the management to exploit it. Plus, IMO, they work with the decided disadvantage that they must sell to their competitors, who surely would buy if the price/value was right but would probably also be happier to buy from a non-competitor if all else was equal. EMC, for example, has, according to reports I've heard, wanted a second source for their high end drives for quite awhile, but still sole sources from Seagate.

You are in the business, I know, and I respect and value your posts and opinions a lot, but I still think that you (and many others) seem overly negative about Seagate's longer term prospects to emerge from their current problems. They still aren't as good a buy as QNTM yet at these prices, IMO, but they will be back.

I'm also not sure why you are relegating QNTM to a "niche" position in the high end.
