The mine is 70 km from the town, that's 40 miles.

Carefully reading the article, note that the mine contributes about 100 million $CDN in revenue to Argentinian and provincial governments.

For a mine of this large size, it has appears to have a pretty good record. Large mines have negative effects, these need to be paid for and or mitigated. It could be that this operation could reasonably do more.

I think most people would rather deal with the mine that any Argentine government of the last 20 years...
