Completely untrue. I've seen dozens of bogus cases aggressively pursued. The plaintiff's lawyer uses the threat of a jury trail to force settlements.

In fact when a case was settled for trifling amounts like 50-100 thousand, this was considered overwhelming evidence that the doctor did nothing wrong.

The company I worked for used to have million dollar policies on everyone with another million dollars for the companies.

The lawyers of course discovered this two million dollar pot of honey and began suing like crazy.

So this solution was easy. Drop the insurance to $250,000. Magically the number of lawsuits dropped down.

Many doctors just dropped their coverage of course. When your insurance costs more than your coverage that makes sense. When the premium is $150,000 for $100,000 of coverage why bother with insurance?

It is impossible to practice emergency room medicine and not get sued. Everybody got sued. A day without a lawsuit was a good day.

But as the insurance coverage became less, the game changed. The big gun guys stopped suing us as much and switched their sights over to the big pocket drug companies.

So we were mainly sued by nickel and dime slime balls out of diploma mill law schools. The difference was they would get smaller settlements. But the process was just as ugly.

A crazy and sick game. But one of survival for the doctor. Because all these bogus lawsuits follow you around for your entire life.

The doctor is always guilty. The facts don't matter.
