It's not that I thought that Beacon Hill had much shame, it was that I couldn't see what they got from the deal. But you were right.

The current argument seems to be whether the former gov. Michael Dukakis gets the nod, or Kennedy family retainer Paul Kirk. The Kennedy family is lobbying hard for Kirk, and whispering that Dukakis might be "unreliable." Which is semi-plausible, since Dukakis was a liberal technocrat and not just a party hack. But Dukakis' convictions are sufficiently in line with Harry Reid's party line that he's unlikely to make any trouble.
