True. But the profitability of the investment banking machine is massive. If I do a $100mm deal, take a 6% transaction fee, split it 50/50% w/ my brokers and employ 3 investment bankers on the deal at $250k/yr salary, I make a huge margin! Also, remember that as valuations on IPO's go up (ie, deals done above the filing range), I get 6% of that increase at no incremental cost!
