"NOT A SINGLE WORD FOR PERSONAL HELP. How much greater such a man than sinners and sickos such as "King" David, Noah, Lot, Solomon, etc."
I, like you, have some serious problems with these ancient texts of the Bible. First they were passed down for centuries in an oral tradition and we all know what happens to stories under those conditions. Second the speaker in the stories switches from first person to third person and it isn't known who the third person is in many cases but it is obvious it is not the same author from story to story. Then we have poetry, history, prose, and occasionally wording delivered from God or an Angel ... all mixed about. Finally, there is some group pressure to go along with the accepted interpretations, which I question.
For example: I've looked at the David story and I can find no proof that he did what he was accused of. In fact, I see texts where he is begging God to give him strength in light of the awful things that are being said about him. That wouldn't be the first or last time a powerful person is the target of malicious gossip. Personally, and as I've heard from wise people, it doesn't make sense that God would identify a person to carry his message that wasn't sinless himself ... it creates a credibility gap. Why should such a person be believed more than the guy next door who makes a claim to be such a spokes person? Just as in modern times when we hear about a preacher doing his parisheners, or skimming from the collection plate, he's through. |
