AJ,

Glad you were able to get thru.

You seem to have thought alot about the situation between BEAM and VISX. I'd say the ultimate outcome is yet to be written. Beam states that they have everything under control. The Lens Express unit is doing very well. They imply that their add campaign is very successful. Machine sales are up to their expectations.

I'm very sure they have upset the conservative optometrist and opthomologist offices throughout the country. So they now have alot of critics. Warren Buffet has critics also. He's still successful. I wouldn't let investor sentiment bother me to much. If you do you are guaranteed to loose money in the market! I do all my own research and I have a long term bias. With Mr. Market it really helps!

Summit states that sales of machines are proceeding according to plan. Their main goal is to boost earnings. I think they were upset to have to take a large charge in the last quarter to buy the Lens Express business. I think it is very unlikely they will do that again. I think they wanted to air all the charges possible in one period and "bite-the-bullet."

All they would quote in unit sales was up to the end of the last quarter; that being 200. They state that they are still selling units and receiving payments for procedures performed. Knowing this, I would think the market has been expressing a bias against Summit. Personally, I was very favorably impressed by investor relations and I came away so impressed that I have been buying more shares. Mr. Market may only give you a short opportunity to buy this issue below book value, as it is now priced (Book approx $6.50).

Further, investor relations stated that the news wires are ignoring their positive news stories. I've seen this happen before and I think it is the ultimate in journalistic bias. My guess is that long-term though it gives small guys more opportunity. I agree with your change buy priority.

I don't own any VISX currently. When VISX gets to $5.00 I will nibble. I'm afraid their astigmatism filing will be very heavily scrutinized by the FDA. All I can say is I hope they put it together well and wrapped it in silk!

I'm a patient investor, I sometimes hold forever; with BEAM I'm just holding and adding. I'd like to double my position from here as I did at $7.00 (I now own several thousand). I'm waiting for a bounce to step up to buy more. I did take some $5.00 put options though.

Best,

Greg
