| | >>Yes, the new battery is AWESOME. Best ever, in every which way, except the tiny, itsy bitsy minor detail of not being user replaceable. That, of course has NOTHING to do with the AWESOME new battery. It has EVERYTHING to do with the locked-tight, only a qualified, Apple technician can touch this precious toy mentality, built into the new, improved Mac designs.<<

Well, I disagree. I think it has to do with producing a notebook with longer battery life than ever before, both in terms of time between charges and useable life overall.
The mentality of which you speak really doesn't jibe with the fact that, in the newer MBPs, the hard drive is considered a user-replaceable part. Once the bottom case is removed, one need only remove one captive screw to swap it out. And no, the warranty is not voided if one does that. I'm not certain the warranty would be voided if one had to replace the battery, either. In any case, given the expected life of these batteries, the machine won't be under warranty by the time it has to be replaced.
I'm always a bit skeptical of criticisms that involve ascribing motive. If you don't have information about the decision process itself, and what went into it, I don't think it's logical to assume that you know about it.
