The fact is that my girlfriend and I are considering picking up a couple of Dell Mini-9s and hackintoshing them for our twins. We don't want to spend a thousand bucks each for MacBooks for kids who are 8 years old. On the other hand, the last thing we would want to do is saddle them with computers running Windows.

That doesn't mean I believe Apple should try to compete in the low-end netbook market. I think their decision to stay out of it is perfectly reasonable.

Wow. Pardon me while pick myself from falling backwards.

You may buy numerous Dells like I and many of my friends did, for obvious reasons, but, that does not mean Apple should try to compete in the low-end netbook market you and many of my friends are spending bucks on? WHY? Why cannot Apple strike a deal with Dell to put primo optimized OS X on their primo, OS X friendly machines? It's a business opportunity lost. No, do not buy the "it will cannibalize the Macbook sales. Macbooks are not netbooks, period. If I wanted a Macbook, I'd already have it. I wanted a dirt cheap but OS X netbook, so I got that. Even Woz gets that point! tomorrowstrends.com
