People are raving about this turn by turn iPhone app for driving/navigation. Cost is $3... 30 day free trial for 'voice turns' then $25 a year or I think you can do monthly (makes sense if you only use it on trips I suppose). Internet connected instead of downloading 1 gig of map data. Wonder what happens when you lose your connection? They mention that have a map cache so maybe that solves the problem... none of the reviews mention it as a drawback. Think I might give it a try....

MotionX-GPS Drive turns any iPhone 3G or 3GS into the next generation car and pedestrian navigation solution. MotionX-GPS Drive covers the U.S. and Canada.

MotionX: Everything is Live and Dynamic

Everything about MotionX-GPS Drive is dynamic including search, maps and routing. This fully-live, always up-to-date, connected experience leverages the full power of the Internet and the iPhone.

MotionX: The Best at a Fraction of the Cost

With the MotionX-GPS Drive solution, you benefit from a fully-live, always-up-to-date, connected experience for navigation. Search, maps, routing, points of interest (POIs), and relevant destination information, such as phone numbers and addresses, are all current, real-time and up-to-date. This is a significant advantage over on-board solutions which are huge downloads (over a Gigabyte) and have static data which is outdated the moment it is loaded.

MotionX: Designed and Optimized for the iPhone

- iPod integration: Access playlists and listen to your music, audiobooks, and podcasts while using MotionX.
- iPhone 3GS Compass: At any time know where your destination is, even if you parked your car a few blocks away, MotionX will take you right there. If you have an iPhone 3G, the compass also works with GPS motion sensing.
- Address book integration: Find an entry in your iPhone contacts list, and MotionX will get you there.
- Phone integration: Place a phone call directly from search results.

MotionX: Includes 30 Days of Live Voice Guidance

If you want live voice directions, MotionX comes with 30 days of Live Voice Guidance. Afterwards, optional Live Voice Guidance Packages may be purchased anytime through in-app purchase. No subscriptions, no recurring fees.

Live Voice Guidance gives you access to:
- Voice guidance, fully integrated with the iPod. Just drive and go.
- Live over-the-air maps and routing.
- MotionX 3D maps.
- Cached routes and maps for optimal performance.
- Simulation mode: See how to get there you before you go.

Drawing from the feedback of over 3 million iPhone users, MotionX has built a complete navigation solution specifically for the iPhone. This is not a quick port of an ancient application. MotionX-GPS Drive is state-of-the-art with a state-of-the-art business model. What this means to you is a better solution at a fraction of the cost.
