I will say that I found the idea of an Apple designed smartphone compelling even before the details of what it would do were known, and I don't feel that way about this tablet thingy.

Thanks Allen. I feel exactly the same way. Though I never owned a smart phone, I find the iPhone to be the most brilliant Apple product, ever. The tablet - as it is presently rumored to be - leaves me scratching my head.

Edit: A thought just came. The rumored tablet strikes me exactly the way the Zune did, when introduced: not quite up to task, compared to what other devices do better, for less.
