>>>"You are not being practical."

Your opinion.

"The only genuine authority is our internal nature when it is free to seek truth and justice."

Actually this is fundamental to Taoism along with simplifying to purify your lifestyle. I'm not a Taoist devotee like David Caradine was but I don't mind giving credit where it belongs when I come across good ideas.

>>>"I am an old hippie and existentialist, hardly a conformist."

You sure? I've never seen anyone so willing to go along with everything labeled left wing, or to attack everything that is not.

I lived in a tee pee and participated in communal farming life style back in the hippee era. I studied existentialist philosophy and found it useful in providing another perspective on existence, not worthy of devotion though. I see no reason to get stuck on any of it.

I don't always agree with the maverick cowpokes who run this thread but I respect their free spirited honesty. That's why I can't help liking peops like chooseanother and Warf Rat too, whom I hardly ever agree with on political opinions. Genuineness and integrity count.

>>>"It seems you use this word indoctrination a lot and as a substitue word for education. Education is not indoctrination, it is just learning."

Exaggeration? I used the word 'indoctrination' twice today and don't remember using it previously on SI.

"I find a lot of people who did not go to college like to throw around the word indoctrination for education making education sound like something bad."

You wouldn't be finding me in that crowd since I have three education degrees and went through PHD in Education. I use the word indoctrination according to its dictionary meaning not according to my personal philosophy of education.

Indoctrination: to instruct in a doctrine, principle, ideology, etc., esp. to imbue with a specific partisan or biased belief or point of view.

"I was a teacher for years.

Me too, for a few years and I was selected as district teacher of the year before I quit. I taught in my thirties and have been out of it for 20 some years. So what? Well, so I'm not one of the supposed uneducated masses you look down on. btw some of the wisest and most successful people I've met did not go far in the formal education system. There are other ways to learn and to know. Some of the dumbest I've met have been snobs at universities.

"When I was going to school I learned all sorts of ideas, left, right center and crazy and then made up my own mind."

Your own mind always seems to follow the left wing political drum without a missing a beat. Coincidence or habit?
