Richard,
Re -- Kurlak was right about 3Q earnings and the near-term trend. Why fight the truth?

Actually Kurlak got lucky (in fact he was wrong about a number of things) Give credit where credit is due. Kurlack does not deserve it.

The reasons he gave for going to neutral, was the product transition to the pII in 1998 and the uncertainiteis associated with it.

-- He did not forecast the decline in earnings (his estimate was 92 intel came in with 88).
-- He hadn't the slightest idea about the "slightly up" Q4 revenues (his Q4 estimates prove that).
-- He did not know anything about the recent industry trends, which caused Intel's revenues to be slightly up
-- He had no clue about the asian crises and drop in the stockmarket.
