Thread: Tomorrow is last day in fiscal year for many mutual funds. There will be an extra effort on the part of same to shore up their portfolios. Couple this fact with the lack of positive momentum in today's market and the probable Asian market problems overnight, this could spell a retesting of the lows tomorrow. Get those buy lists out. Make a plan and execute.

Some thoughts:

1. If no cash, then look at your holdings and try to do some simultaneous trades out of your weaker holdings into a company with better prospects. If you sell low and buy low at the same time, all things being equal, you will be better off a year from now if your analysis is on target. You may even register a loss to reduce next year's tax bill.Watch the wash rule.

2. A good way to give yourself room for a bridge loan of sorts if you go to margin to buy is to tell your mutual funds, if you have any, to pay their distributions in cash at the end of the year as opposed to reinvestment. Use that expected cash to buy now.

3. Set mental limits to buy. For example, plan to establish or add to a position at, say, 10% lower than the current price and if the price should go lower by another 10%, then plan to add to that position an equal or greater amount.
