My general feeling is this: these gadgets are all now cheap enough - and thanks to The Cloud, interconnected enough - that it's time to stop thinking of them as general-purpose anything. If a particular gadget serves one need really really well and better than anything else - then it's probably worth it.

I'm sure we all have one or two Lee Valley types in our lives - the amount of money that can be dropped at that place for woodworking tools that are almost exactly like - but just different enough - than all the other tools already owned is staggering.

Or look at me - I'm a drummer - do I really need 8 different ride cymbals between 21" and 24" diameter? Yeah, actually, I do. :) And trust me, quality cymbals in that size cost a heck of a lot more than another netbook! :) :)

IMO - and I realize many don't agree with this - it's time to stop thinking of these as general purpose computing machines and start thinking of them as "specific function delivery device".
