In many specialties doctors still make a good living, but unless something changes, being an Internist or Family doc is gradually becoming a thing of the past. Nurse practitioners are beginning to fill the void, but they'll also find themselves under pretty hard pressures. I noticed that nurse practitioners are also trying to "specialize" - by working for specialist groups in specific fields. That seems to be the preferred way of being an NP.
