I see what you mean. To have peace in your heart, you can simply dispel your anger or grief and move on.

Reconciliation is another level of the issue which is practical when the perp still has an active presence or influence. Reconciliation is not possible without forgiveness to re-establish a mutual trust. One where the perp is interested in reconciliation and you are willing.

” I disagree... forgiving the person certainly doesn't mean you trust them any more!! It probably allows you see them more clearly for what they are.

If you are refusing them, then I can't see how forgiveness is genuinely accomplished.
