Tim,

Luck has alot to do with trading stocks and brains for long term investing! I do spend many hours studing charts and I combine that with fundamentals when selling short! Most people think short sellers are very mean people and trying to take advantage of small investors! But I bet there are a lot of wealthy people and mutual funds that are not to happy with DELL going down! I do not call all my shorts correct, but I have made far much more money selling short the last two years as I have in my long positions, and that has been while the market averages have been going up also! I also am willing to continue to sell as stock prices rise if I still think a stock is over value for what ever reasons! As far as DELL is concerned, I took a look at DELL's chart and DELL has risen 20 fold in the past year, and I felt a correction was needed, and I was willing to sell DELL all the way to $140 if I needed too! I was going to sell a 1000 shares every 10 points it went up! I have never seen a stock go straight up for ever and all stocks will come down, but from what point is the main question one has to ask! So since I'm not sure where the top is, I tell myself to sell and sell more if it keeps going up! Got to be real tough, a little bit crazy, think positive, and a very understanding wife to sell short!
