Brian,

do you really think we are going into another downturn? We are two quarters into the current one. I heard LRCX say that DRAM producers were pulling in equipment for the next generation.>>

While I am bullish on the semi equips long term, I think it fool hardy to totally ignore the possibility that there might be some short term rockiness - there ALWAYS is with these cos. My money is too valuable to me to ignore the "Daves" totally. RE: the SEA currency situation, I don't think that the companies know what is going to happen yet - I think it is too soon to expect guidance in CCs held this week.

I would recommend that you go check out Sam C.'s recap of the SVGI cc today. Overall it was positive, but they did indicate that the 300mm transition is not going as smoothly as you might hope (not necessarily because of the SEA flap). AMAT is counting on a big chunk of $$ from the move to 300mm - any delays *will* hurt the short term numbers despite the fact that the worldwide chip demand is really in its infancy.

AMAT is a great company, but it might be a little premature to say that the stock price is out of the woods yet. I have been considering buying some AMAT on margin, but keep thinking back to your position on margin at 46 and can't quite summon the male fortitude to pull the trigger.

Scott
