The divide is getting bigger (or at least was till the recent financial crash), and IMO the rich have had the deck stacked in their favor via tax policy. The rich have gotten a hell of a lot richer over the past decade, but as far as your comment on them creating jobs, I seem to recall statistics that over the past decade we have had a pretty weak recovery since the 2000 downturn in terms of jobs, and we all know about the tent cities and jobless rates now. Seems to me that the lower and middle classes are getting squeezed pretty badly.
