Sure, but that's not the same as evaluating it objectively. By any objective standard, everyone is better off than they were other than those individuals who have hit the skids. The mean and the median are up.

I'm not taking issue with Buffet's point. Feel free to lop off some of the income of the Buffets and the Oprahs and throw it into the public kitty. I don't care either way. I have no more respect for excesses than you do. That our tax structure may be screwed up, however, is beside the point. The little guys have an an improving standard of living regardless of how much Buffet puts into the public coffers. That they may be further away from Buffet's standard of living may affect their perceptions but it doesn't affect the facts. They still have air conditioning, cell phones, and hip replacements.
