I think that Tuesday was a kneejerk reaction. Most everyone that had some extra cash and saw the bargains jumped on them. I saw some survey results Tuesday morning before the market opened, and (if I recall correctly) 1% of people were planning on selling, 19% were planning on buying, and 80% were planning to hold. (I was actually quite surprised at the confidence that was shown there...) What we saw Tuesday was a combination of the 19% and some momentum investors.

What we've seen since then is the momentum investors taking profits, slight selling pressure continuing, and buying dropping off (the 19% already did their buying). It'll take a little while (a few weeks?) for things to return to "normal".

That's just my opinion, though. There are quite a few other factors coming into play, too, though. (Such as year-end tax-related selling, etc.)
