I know they have a memory. I had a German Shepherd-Collie mix that loved to go for walks and runs. I lived close to a railroad easement that turned into a place where people took their dogs. I would let her out of the car about a half a mile from the house and she would tear home racing the car. I always took her with me when I went to the grocery store. I would try to sneak up on the spot to let her out because she got so excited she'd start shaking. She knew when we were getting close and would start shaking so hard I was afraid she's hurt herself.

The only other place she'd start shaking was whenever we passed by the vet's office. She hated him. Took me awhile to make the connection.

If we passed by the drop off place on our way somewhere else, she'd still start shaking with excitement. The disappointment on her face when we drove by would've broke your heart.
