No, they just crush them to use for grit. I think that there are far fewer uses for diamonds than gold. True? I've never compared them this way.
I have heard though, that they really are as common as quartz. Have you heard same?
Anything that can hold as much value as diamonds have should deserve consideration as a repository of asset value. At least they have some legit industrial uses which is more than you can say for stock certificates.
