Yes, you are right DAK and my post was wrong.

The scientific commmunity does consider humans and other apes to have evolved from a common ancestor. I think we seperated about 5 million years ago.

What is confusing, is that we (humans-lol)use the word ape in both a scientific and colloquial manner.

We are actually apes. But we think of ourselves differently from the other four apes living today:

Chimps, gorillas, orangutangs and gibbons. Some consider bonobos another type of apes, but I always thought they were a species of chimp?
