>>> Hospitals are full of case managers, billers, coders, etc., etc. - all of them busy dealing with the everchanging rules and regulations being handed down by HCFA.

It really is a tragedy. I've got two docs now who just changed clearinghouses and they were told by provider enrollment all their payments are on hold until they provide new 855 forms. Ridiculous. They guys see a TON of Medicare patients (a father & son practice in small town, Arkansas).

Here's a sign of the times, though. I was working in an office this week -- a new OB/GYN, fresh out of her residency -- who partnered with another of my customers. While working in their office I notice a big sign "Dr. D. - No more than 5 Medicaids a month". This, I might add, is in the Arkansas town that has probably the biggest Medicaid volume of anywhere in the state.

The first OB/GYN learned her lesson by getting top heavy in Medicaids. She's clearly put the new one on notice -- DO NOT get too many Medicaids or you'll regret it. I have numerous other clinics who just won't take Medicaids at all.
