There is most important reason ever if you read the history which likes to repeat itself - PRIDE. No empire survived being forced to admit defeat in the poorest country of the world. BTW, Iraq is far from being pacified, give it a year or two and Afghanistan will be run again by Taliban and US forces back in Iraq or... home where they belong.
If either Israel or US attack Iran do yourself a favor and start storing food and dig a shelter.
