Good evening Roger, T

" The rebound yesterday (Tues.) was extremely strong. But I had the impression today that the market was trying to go down and there was some sort of contrived floor holding it up. Did anyone else sense that or is it my imagination? If I am right, we can expect Asia to dive again tonight,(Wed.)"

The general market has experienced IMO some rather odd happenings the past few days. After reading your above post, I tried to be consciously aware of that perception today, (Thurs.). During mid-day trading, the averages generally traded in a fairly narrow range, but on enormous volume. Do you think the mutual funds have been taking profits, but only to the extent
they can without driving the general averages significantly lower. Could they be dribbling out stock to Joe "man-on-the-street"? Many fund managers' 1997 bonuses could now be safely locked in for the year if they so desired. It becomes the time of year when the 1997 total return numbers for the funds could be realized. The numbers that will appear in next year's prospectuses
can now be locked in, as well as the bonus picture.
Just my opinion,
MT
