Food, transportation, housing (until recently)... the basic things you need. Gas prices were quite high for a while. Other than that, dunno. I don't see it. I'm not paying more for transportation. I just checked American Airlines for my annual trip to Tucson. A bit down from last time and within the range of the last eight years. My food costs have gone down, both grocery and restaurant. My standard sashimi lunch costs less per unit than it did eight years ago--it costs slightly more but the sushi chef is more generous. Beef tenderloin was up for a while but backed off recently. They're practically giving pork away. I am sure I pay less for most produce. I'd need hard data to buy your argument. Anecdotally it just seems off to me. The COLA for the last 8 years averages 2.7%. Historically that's not out of line. About the same as the nineties, lower than the eighties.
