* Copper production seen falling due to smelter maintenance

* Gold, silver output to rise

ASTANA, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Kazakh copper producer Kazakhmys may reduce copper output by up to 9.6 percent this year, a regional official told a government meeting on Monday.

"As for Kazakhmys, its copper output is seen decreasing by 9.6 percent due to planned maintenance at the Zhezkazgan smelter, but it will be compensated by growth in other products including precious metals," said Nurlan Nigmatullin, the head of the Karaganda region where most Kazakhmys facilities are based.

Nigmatullin said London-listed Kazakhmys would boost gold output by 10.3 percent this year and silver production by 1.2 percent.

Kazakhmys boosted copper cathode output from its own material by 8 percent in the first half of the year to 170,000 tonnes.
