Why?

You make a very good point. I couldn't figure out for the life of me what Chicago had to offer the IOC in the first place. Where would they house the athletes and have them be safe? Hell you'd be better off having the Olympics in Beirut for crying out loud. Can't be having athletes being beaten to death by roving groups of savages with railroad ties.
