It's not good for Russia if Iran is locked and loaded with nukes pointing in all directions and Islamic Jihad ideology fueling them. <How is it in Russia's interest for Iran to have nucs? China's? Anyone's? Is everyone mad? > But that's not what will happen. Iran has said they intend to obliterate Israel. By that they don't mean persuade Israelis to adopt a better constitution. They mean they intend to do it in by means of military conquest either directly or via proxies or to make it so bleak in Israel that Israelis abandon ship. That intention by Iran is not a passing fancy of President Amendiejihad and a quorum of ayatollahs. It's a well established wide spread intention. Russia might be able to "Give the USA and Israel their own Vietnam" as dopey Jimmy Carter and Brzezinski who was still fighting WWII decided in regard to Afghanistan with death still going on their now as a result. Russia knows that Israel and USA won't allow nukes combined with Islamomania more or less next door. So it's a good bet for Russia. They can always lend a hand if needs be and nab some northern territory to help stabilize Iran. USA will need all the help it can get. It's a good bet for Russia because even imaginary nukes resulted in the USA and COW invading and conquering Iraq, killing Saddam and sons. Iraq was supposed to be the USA buddy. So a nuke-armed Iran full of ayatollahs who kidnapped and embassy full of Americans and are threatening to obliterate Israel and maybe the USA too [good parts of it anyway] is NOT going to be acceptable. It's very good for Russia if Iran has nukes. With the Straits of Hormuz closed for considerable time the price of Russian hydrocarbon exports will zoom sky high. Just quietly, it's no bad thing for Exxon, BP, Shell and other producers either if competitors are off-line. Many competitors of middle east hydrocarbons will rub their hands with glee at major war in Iran. Mqurice
