That was the system that created artificial wealth: you just prop the value of a product that only you can produce and voila! you are rich! When the US Dollar gets stronger, it takes fewer dollars to buy any commodity that is priced in USD. Thus propping USD value makes an American citizen need to work less to get the same amount of foreign produced goods and services When the US Dollar gets weaker it takes more dollars to purchase the same commodity. Thus an American citizen needs to work more to get the same amount of foreign produced goods and services.
