I believe that anything people fight so ardently has nothing to do with embarrassment. Nobody cares if he is a bastard son. That would just fit better into his "American Dream" scenario.
If it were merely something embarrassing why would he have written so many embarrassing things about his mother? That certainly would be inconsistent.

I am not a believer or disbeliever but I do realize that the most intriguing of unknowns are those in which people are told they cannot look under a particular rock. That in itself is the catalyst for much of the debate. If Howard Dean, Bill Clinton or George Bush had such a rock, the public would have been just as curious and possibly been more demanding. This isn't racism, but quite the opposite in most respects.

Another thing I believe amusing is that if he wasn't born in the USA, people insist he was born in Kenya. If his pregnant mother were in Kenya and took a flight from Kenya in 1961, there would have been one or more stops before arrival in Hawaii. Possibly the change of airlines and a more reputable airline wouldn't allow her to fly. It isn't likely that any airline would deny anyone in any condition boarding out of Kenya.

I only mention this because I haven't seen it yet ;^) Maybe I don't read all of the birth certificate things and it has been written.
