ghunk --- pronounced as
1) gee hunk
2) gunk (silent h)
3) junk
A long time ago in non cyberspace time some friends and I endured a set of painful yet hilarious circumstances due to my ineptitude. After the fact, these friends took great delight in retelling the story with greater and greater liscense, always with me affectionately as the butt of the joke. The story eventually grew so long and complicated it was reduced to the punchline--ghunk, in all three variations depending on which aspect of the story was being emphasized at the time. Since then, the mere mention of ghunk is all that is required to reduce a certain group of supposedly intelligent, mature, sane adults into a mass of babbling, roaring, gut wrenching, weeping, emotionally challenged nincompoops. And since the best defence is offence, I began to wear my humiliation as a badge of honor. As I moved into cyberspace I thought what better or more appropriate moniker than ghunk. Pardon the lack of detail but I have no wish to relive my day of infamy here on the net. It almost seems second nature to me now and I forget the oddity to anothers ear. Over on the Pacific Rim thread back around the early 6000's (posts that is) somewhere we also had some fun with the name. Do a SI search for Brown Ghunk Inc. for a good laugh.
