i agree that was probably part of their, uh, "calculus". but if you follow that calculus to its logical conclusion, Bush II should have received Nobels every year from 2002.

in fact in the real world there are some actual heros out there (a record number of nominees this year), risking more than excessive applause from champagne tinklers during a "courageous" speech of hoary platitudes ("Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" and other such drivel).

the Nobel Commissariat, with their shameless toadying, not only show disrespect for past and present real-life heros, they also make a mockery of their own award and the ideals of human liberty they purport to espouse.

in other words, their decision is logical and perfectly in keeping with the superficial world of shiny hucksters in which we live.
