The Dell train has been trapped by a fallen dead log in a
miserable swamp for nearly a month . Dellhead passengers, although under-fed and miserable, have helped saw up the log and fill the bunkers with neat piles of dried wood, while fending off relentless attacks by wild bears and other critters.
Now the boiler fires are re-lit, the steam gage has moved off
the peg, and all the car heaters are working. The chefs in the dining car are preparng a great feast of tender bear steaks, to be accompanied by simmered cranberries found locally,and the last of the champagne. Tomorrow at dawn the Dell Express moves out to high
ground and speeds along past the friendly villages, tall shocks
of ripe corn and fields of orange pumpkins, headed toward old Chi
town.
