The influence of the Iraq War on Iran and other ME countries was ALWAYS the major point of the war.

Right...it couldn't have worked any better...for iran that is. It made them more powerful in the region and invigorated their search for nukes...why not...it's what I would do if I saw a neighboring country attacked on shaky pretenses...same for NK. Bush's rhetoric was so counterproductive it's hard to put it into words...what's the payback of calling the leader of NK a "pygmy dictator" for example? Or the two countries in question a "axis of evil"? It telegraphs to them that you've abandoned diplomacy only to be forced into it later...bush was a dangerous fool with a big job...obama is trying to undo all the harm that he and the demagogues around him caused to our foreign policy.
