I doubt it had any real effect on the relationship. But it did wake the American people up to understand that these people are the enemy, which they were and continue to be and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

Do you think that there was a benefit to clarify to america that Iran is "our" enemy as opposed to say maintaining the important consideration that America deals at a higher "diplomatic plane" than these dictatorships? I mean, this kind of cowboy diplomacy became largely responsible for the decline of America's image in the world, and, despite your opinion of its importance, cooperation on the world stage is critical to successful world diplomacy. In the end, bush's bluster waned into a process that forced him into relying on allies to talk to NK...

It is inexplicable to me how you and the Left think that by talking nicely to Iran and NK you're going to somehow convince them to be nice.

I have not seen this oversimplification of behavior you attribute to the left. So far Omaba has used a mix of carrot and stick with Iran.
