Believe me.......I've tried.

I have too. It's useless.

For the first half of my life I thought I could see both sides of an issue. What it really meant was that I didn't have firm convictions of my own.

Now I do.

I've learned that if you don't stand up for what you believe, nobody else is going to do it for you.

As I mature, though, I've learned that sometimes relationships are more important than who's right or wrong in a debate. Some of the most important people in my life differ with me on politics. We make a conscious decision to avoid letting it creep into our relationship.

And I make a conscious decision not to respond if they say something that I believe is hogwash.

Along those lines, I've chosen to avoid conversation forums (on SI) where I know I'll get a reaction to every thing I say. Pretty soon a statement like "The moon is blue" wastes a week of stupid useless give and take.
