"Seems to me that most 'anti-religious' things you see are really talking about "creationists"... folks rejecting basic scientific observations like age of the earth, evolution (any speciation), in favor of biblical stories.
Its not necessary to reject any scientific theory when identifying yourself as a creationist, except contradicting theories about the origin of the universe. There is a broad range on the continuum. No educated person I know, and that includes everyone I know, denies the fundamental laws of evolution being 'adaptation' and natural selection. We can observe this through controlled breeding and in natural conditions like: When Fewer Predators Are Present, Brighter Coloration Can Evolve, Natural Selection Can Lead to Pesticide Resistance, Experiments Can Demonstrate Natural Selection, Selection Acts on Random Variation To Favor the Traits That Work Best in Particular Environments. wps.prenhall.com
There are some (very few) fringe religious extremists who would argue otherwise.
This explains biological processes to a very great extent and does not contradict the principles of living that transcends all the major religions. People who live according to those principles tend to have a strong family dynamic and, as a result of the principled lifestyle, tend to achieve well in studying and adapting intellectually to changing conditions. Ironically, anti-religious people who are also dogmatic about established science do not tend to form strong family systems, adapt as well, or further the scientific understanding of things as well as the aforementioned.
"5 out of 6 biologists I work with go to church... they would be included in your study (in fact when I grew up EVERY PERSON I knew went to church) and would be more "highly educated"...
Right. And for purposes of political-bigotry those five might be counted as scientists, ignoring the fact that they also believe in things beyond material science...tsk
"...yet when you're talking evolution many 'religious' people would point to the ignorant "RELIGIOUS" people. "
They do indeed, the "ignorant Religious people" being a tiny fractional subset of religious people; where as, the anti-religious people lump them as one and the same. |
