Never lost a dollar on AMD. It ebbs and flows like the tides. Just like Buffet says, you only need to buy near the bottom and sell near the top. AMD is a great example of this. You know it's going to go down to the single digits sometime and you know it will go to the tens and twenties sometime and you buy and sell accordingly. It's not rocket science. I have invested in Intel and while it never lost me money, it never made much. My risk tolerance is such that I have sizable 401k money invested prudently and investment money. I can be more risk tolerant with my investment money and it has worked. Just look at the last ten years and an obvious AMD pattern emerges.

While I root for AMD, hope they do well and fascinated by their technology they turn out on a shoestring budget, my investment goal is to make money. I am not voting that they are the best company, but because of their predictable volitility, they have the most investment potential. I also believe they are getting near the top of their potential unless nvidia is out and they can demonstrate some progress in anti-trust suit against Intel.

I may sell after Intel's announcement, but I may stay in for a little while if I feel nvidia is really down and out. I need to make it to november to avoid capital gains. Otherwise I will get hit with an extra 20%. Which means unless AMD goes down 20% I will be just fine. Even still I will be up 2x.

As far as my trades here ya go:

11/25/2008 AMD BOUGHT 3000 SHARES OF AMD AT $1.84 ($7.00) $0.00 ($5,527.00)
10/27/2008 AMD BOUGHT 200 SHARES OF AMD AT $2.9399 $0.00 $0.00 ($587.98)
10/27/2008 AMD BOUGHT 200 SHARES OF AMD AT $2.9399 ($7.00) $0.00 ($594.98)
10/27/2008 AMD BOUGHT 200 SHARES OF AMD AT $2.9399 $0.00 $0.00 ($587.98)
10/27/2008 AMD BOUGHT 100 SHARES OF AMD AT $2.9399 $0.00 $0.00 ($293.99)
10/27/2008 AMD BOUGHT 100 SHARES OF AMD AT $2.9399 $0.00 $0.00 ($293.99)
10/27/2008 AMD BOUGHT 100 SHARES OF AMD AT $2.9399 $0.00 $0.00 ($293.99)
10/27/2008 AMD BOUGHT 100 SHARES OF AMD AT $2.9399 $0.00 $0.00 ($293.99)
10/27/2008 AMD BOUGHT 194 SHARES OF AMD AT $2.9399 $0.00 $0.00 ($570.34)
10/27/2008 AMD BOUGHT 156 SHARES OF AMD AT $2.9399 $0.00 $0.00 ($458.62)

Small positions but it's fun and remarkably predictable. Composite share price is $2.18. So I think I will out perform an Intel investment this year yet again.

Patterns are not random chance Elmer and there have been plenty of data points to prove it. Remember when AMD used to go up after a bad quarter and then go down after a good one? That was weird, but proved they are not your run of the mill investment opportunity and required a lot of study to make it work for me.
